Weekly Walk Calendar

Please provide some input/feedback

Hi!

Here’s the walk calendar!

Apologies to everyone who wanted to provide feedback, but also told me that the form wasn’t working! I fixed it and I would love your feedback (regardless of whether or not you’ve joined). I’ve created this anonymous form, so please be candid!

Daniele from Inner Richmond

Daniele is one of our “artists in residence”. She’s been highly active within the art world here in San Francisco and volunteers quite often at our art museums like the De Young and conservation non-profits. She’s been recently busy with preparing a piece for a show in Mill Valley at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts. The show’s theme is FLORAL FANTASIES. The show will be on from MARCH 26 – APRIL 26, 2024

If you are in the area, there will be an Artist Roundtable next week Tuesday, April 2 at 4pm with a Reception from 5:30-7:30pm.

Linda from Telegraph Hill

Linda’s an avid walker and we chatted about her shared desire to form community. In a past life she used to be a personal trainer and she shared with me some tips that she had learned from a podiatrist who used to run marathon runner. Basically:

  • Don't toe in or toe out excessively. Best is very slightly outward from an absolutely straight ahead placement. This is when you lift or push your foot off the ground.

  • Arms and legs swing in parallel to each other. Get a mental picture of soldiers marching.

  • Try and maintain good posture - have your head up, shoulders back, stomach in, chest out.

If you’d like to read more, here’s a link to an article that she shared with me. However, this may not be what we focus on while we are chatting, but when your walking on your own, try and keep these tricks in mind.

Followup on Sanae from Civic Center

Sanae just mentioned to me on the walk today that she’s actually going to be going on the next Sierra Club trip to New York. So if you’re interested in going with someone that you know. She’d love for you to come along.

Here’s the link again, and if you’re interested in learning more and chatting with her. Please just send a quick reply and I can get you connected.

Tiny Habits - book reading

As I’ve been making my way through the book, Fogg shares a formula for developing new habits/behaviors.

Behavior = Motivation x Ability x Prompt

One of the examples was where this woman had her phone as her alarm, but when she got her phone in her hand she would start going through social media and before she knew it, she lost an hour of her time and ran out of time to do her morning work out. But by changing her phone alarm into an actual clock, she was able to get into her work out routine again. This is an example of adjusting one of the “levers” in his model for small, or “tiny”, behavior changes.

We just started charging our phones in the hallway at our new place and I have to say that the extra barrier has definitely helped with limiting the social media before and after bed! Who knew?
