Hello! I’m excited to start to formalize this walking group a little more with a newsletter tool. I’ll be sending out emails with the schedule of the following week’s walks here. Forgive me on the length of this first email.

If you can, I highly encourage joining this week. Next week the 20th through the 25th is forecasted to rain. So if you were going to have some marshmallows and hot chocolate this week, wait till next week!!! It’ll be so much better. Here’s a fun read on the Stanford Marshmallow Experiment.

About me

For those of you who haven’t joined one of our Senior Walks, I am Richard. I started this group in memory of my grandmother. She loved walking but it was always so much more fun when she was able to walk with someone. She loved to talk. She developed dementia as the years came along and didn’t have conversations with anyone besides the family. 

I started this group because I know that she would have led a healthier, happier life if she could not only continue walking (which she did religiously), but also continue socializing. I’m sure many of you have seen or heard about social isolation, but here’s a nice summary by the CDC on its effects such as a 50% increased risk of developing dementia which I’m sure includes my grandmother. I was further inspired to start this group because of this Blue Zones documentary I saw about living to 100.

I’m a startup health tech guy with a CPA (I used to build prescription and charting software), so organizing events and coordinating folks is not my strong suit, so I’m still figuring things out. I really need all the help that I can get.
