Musicals next month + Fall Prevention + Vegan Food Meetup

Chinatown Night Market at 5:30pm

Hi!

Here’s the walk calendar!

Mike D from Miraloma

Mike and his trusty bloodhound, Rusty, has been an avid hiker and fellow Meetup Organizer. He’s joined us our walks and has even brought his neighbors out to our walks as well. Mike’s passionate about Vegan Cuisine and organizes the Vegan Food Lovers Meetup Group.

One thing that I love about our walking groups is the opportunity for us to be able to speak to each other and get to know each other more intimately. Bonnie from Miraloma had mentioned to me that she had gone to a number of Mike’s events, but never really got a chance to chat with him until they both joined Neighborhood Steps (that’s what I’m calling our club now).

Do you have any great stories of meeting old connections or making new friends? Please share them with me! I’d love to hear it.

Annie from Sunset

Annie is a longtime native of SF and avid BroadwaySF lover. She used to organize large groups to go see shows at the Orpheum, Golden Gate, and Curran Theaters before the Pandemic and is now long time friends with the group ticket sales agent! She’s trying to bring her group back to life. The next show that she’s organizing is for "Funny Girl" scheduled for May 17th at 7:30 at the Orpheum (Market at Hyde Street). She has seats on hold for several different sections of the theater at different price points and is looking for 4 more people to get the group discount rate! She can pick up people on her way from Sunset, so don’t let a car get in your way!

If you’re interested in this show or would like to be on the short list for future excursions, send a quick reply and I’ll link you all up.

Avid Gardeners who like California Native plants?

On one of our walks in Miraloma, we pass by “Garden Greg's” house (I call him Garden Greg, since we have our Greg who leads that walk). He’s a staple of the Miraloma community and has helped many neighbors with converting their gardens to California native plants to support local species. He told us that he propagates many plants and they’re available for you to pick up FOR FREE from the community garden by Golden Gate park.

Here’s a link to the garden, I haven’t gone myself yet to confirm, but I wanted to pass it along. Please let me know if you go!

New Walks Leaders?!

If you are interested in helping to start a new walking group? We currently have some volunteers who want to start a group, but are looking for some people to help support them as backup/co-hosts. Please let me know if you are interested in any of these neighborhoods:

  • Bernal Heights

  • Buena Vista

  • Chinatown

  • Duboce Triangle

  • Inner Sunset

  • Mission

  • Mission Bay

  • 2nd Cow Hollow Group

Unofficially going to the Chinatown Night Market

I’ve been speaking with a few folks about doing a Chinatown walk paired with the Chinatown night markets that have started every 2nd Friday of the month. I’m going to go with Jen on Friday and chat with some of the organizers of the night market. Because I haven’t gone and it’s a busy event, I’m checking it out before putting together an official walk. But it’s still a cool night market, so if anyone would like to meetup with me there to do some reconnaissance.
